What's New: Back Issues

Winter 2003:
Boy the holiday season sure sped by this year. While I'd like to say that this gorgeous tree was mine..... the truth is that my tree had a cat in it.... That's Fudgie aka Princess Fudgie draped over the branches.

I've been busy working on a new trilogy of Silhouette Romances about more U.S. Marines -- Striker's story is tentatively called HER MILLIONAIRE MARINE and should be out in early spring of 2004. Two months later comes his brother Ben's story. And his brother Rad's book comes two months after that. So while the bad news is that there will be some time until my next book comes out, the good news is that once it does, I'll have 3 books out in six months in the first half of 2004.

This February I was the coordinator of the 6th Annual All for Love fundraiser (booksale and raffle) where we raised over $2,100 for the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease, which is the number 1 killer of women in America. Our grand prize was a pair of first class tickets on United Airlines, which was won by the mom of cover model Leland Burbank (our afternoon emcee). A great time was had by all.

August 2002:
This summer has been hot, hot, HOT! But I've been busy. Here are a few highlights:

Driving USA with Paul McCartney
No, he didn't pick me up while hitchhiking (grin). I went to his concert and had an incredible time - so many great songs! Back in the USSR, Blackbird, Jet. And he sang them all to me (grin). Forget the other 80,000 people in Chicago's United Center, I'm telling you he sang just for me.

Rocky Mountains, Hi
I had a very successful Romance Writers of America conference in Denver this summer. Met with my editors, my agent, and author friends like Jayne Ann Krentz, RWA raised over $47,000 for literacy at their bookfair, where I was autographing books along with several hundred other romance authors.

Cat Stories
Earlier in the summer, a stray cat decided it would be clever to have her batch of kittens under my front porch. Needless to say, I couldn't just leave them to face the big bad world alone, so I rescued the three kittens, snatched them at 6 weeks old (they were weaned by then) and tamed them. Four-and-a-half weeks later they were ready to be adopted, even if it was hard for me to let them go. Thanks to Petsmart and ADOPT, and me (grin) they now have been spayed and are in new homes. This photo shows the little orange kitten Buddy playing with Creamie, who used to be a little orange-and-white kitten himself a year ago.

Meanwhile my own five kittens have continued to grow, as you can see from the photo of Fudgie, kicking back and relaxing as only a cat can. Sure, but then she doesn't have to worry about book deadlines like I do (note the photo of Colorado's Maroon Bell mountains behind Fudgie).

March 2002: Can't believe how fast time is flying by these days. Can't blame it all on the five kittens (who are growing by leaps and bounds, and are also just plain leaping...all the way up to the top of the fridge as you can see from the photo of Rascal).

I've also been busy writing. I finished Justice's story for MARRIED TO A MARINE which will be out this September and am almost done with Sam's story in SLEEPING BEAUTY & THE MARINE which is scheduled for January 2003.

Next week I'll be heading off to Arizona for the Public Library Association Convention, where as Romance Writers of America's Library Liaison I'll be manning RWA's booth.

I spent the weekend trying to clear the ten inches of snow from our driveway and wondering if it was just my imagination that a week ago it was 60 degrees here in Chicago. Some of you have asked about my teddy bear collection so I've reposted a photo of some of them, think they are multiplying when I'm not looking . Will also post a photo of the sold-out limited-edition CathieBear (Romance Writing bear) designed by talented teddy bear artist Margi Bebiak. The bear looks better in a hat than I do, however .

September 2001: On August 20th my brother rescued three tiny kittens from his backyard which was about to be turned into a construction zone for a deck. They were barely two weeks old. Since our humane societies were all full I became their foster mom, bottle feeding them every few hours. They are now healthy and happy two month old bundles of joy -- and you guessed it, I've adopted them. From left to right are Fudgie (female), Purr-Purr (male) and Creamie (male). As you may remember in June I adopted Rascal and Whiskas -- here's what the Big Boys look like now as they gaze out at my garden.

I must say that while it's been hectic in the Linz household lately, the kittens have helped tremendously during this troubled time since the tragic events of September 11th. My thoughts are with you all... Cathie

July 2001: Welcome to this new section on my website where I share my latest news and there's plenty this time! First off I got two new kittens, as you can see from the top of this page. Above left we have Rascal and above right is Whiskas. They are a little over two months old, and are brothers that I got from the local humane society.

Other exciting news is that DADDY IN DRESS BLUES, my Sept. 2000 Silhouette Romance featuring my first U.S. Marine hero, won the WisRWA Write Touch Readers Award for Best Short Contemporary. The sequel, about Joe Wilder the hero's best friend, is called STRANDED WITH THE SERGEANT, a Silhouette Romance, and will be in bookstores this August. Coming in December is the story of Joe's brother Mark in THE MARINE AND THE PRINCESS. Watch for more Men of Honor Marine books in 2002!

Right now I'm writing a special continuity project, Royally Wed, for Silhouette Romance. Mine is the fourth of four books and is called A PRINCE AT LAST!

In mid-July I'll be traveling to the heat of New Orleans for the Romance Writers of America conference. But more about that next time!

Watch this section in weeks to come for more updates!
